What this covers

markitdown.ai ("we") converts documents into Markdown through the web app and the developer API. This is a plain-language overview of the data we handle and why. Questions are welcome at the address at the bottom.

What we collect

We keep this to what running the service requires:

• Account data — your email and authentication details, plus API keys you create.
• Documents and output — files you upload and the Markdown we produce from them, stored in your library until you delete them or close your account.
• Usage and billing metadata — conversions, credits consumed, plan, and billing period, so usage can be metered and limits enforced.

How documents are handled

Files you upload are processed by our parsing service to produce Markdown, then stored alongside their output in your library so you can preview, download, and reuse them. We do not sell your documents and do not use them to train machine-learning models. You can delete a file or your whole library at any time; deletion removes the stored source and output.

Payments

Paid plans are billed through a third-party payment processor. Card details are entered with the processor and handled by them — we do not store full card numbers on our systems. We retain the subscription and billing metadata needed to manage your plan and credits.

Service providers

We rely on a small set of providers to operate: cloud object storage for files, a transactional email provider for account and billing messages, and a payment processor for subscriptions. They process data only to deliver these functions.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit, and access to stored files is scoped to your account. No system is perfectly secure, so avoid uploading documents you are not permitted to process through a third-party service.

Your choices

You can delete individual conversions, clear your library, rotate or revoke API keys, and request account deletion. For data-access or deletion requests, contact us using the address below.
