Terms of Service

Last updated June 2026

Using the service

markitdown.ai converts documents into Markdown through a web app and a developer API. By creating an account or using the service you agree to these terms. This is a plain-language overview, not a substitute for legal advice.

Your account

Keep your credentials and API keys secure; you are responsible for activity under your account. API keys are scoped to your account and should be treated like passwords.

Acceptable use

When you upload documents to convert, you agree that:

  • You have the right to process the content you upload.
  • You will not use the service for unlawful, abusive, or infringing purposes.
  • You will not attempt to disrupt the service or circumvent per-account rate limits.

Credits and billing

Conversions are metered in credits. Paid plans (Lite, Pro, Max) grant a monthly credit allowance plus higher file and usage limits; the free plan offers a small allowance with no card required. Monthly credits reset at the start of each billing period and do not roll over. Annual plans are billed once at a discount and grant the year's credits up front. Plan changes apply immediately with prorated billing, and you can cancel anytime; access continues through the paid period. Payments are processed by a third-party payment provider.

Availability and roadmap

The service is provided on an "as is" basis. We work to keep it reliable, but do not guarantee uninterrupted availability or that every document converts perfectly. Features described as planned or on the roadmap (such as higher-accuracy OCR or structured extraction) are not commitments and may change.

Your content and our service

You retain all rights to the documents you upload and the Markdown produced from them. We retain all rights to the markitdown.ai software and service. You may use the Markdown output freely in your own workflows.

Liability

To the extent permitted by law, markitdown.ai is not liable for indirect or consequential damages arising from use of the service. Always keep your own copies of important source documents.

Changes

We may update these terms as the service evolves. Material changes will be reflected by the date below; continued use after an update means you accept the revised terms.
